On our way we will visit Kutna Hora, Brno city

Kutna Hora,

Rooted in the 12th century around a Cistercian monastery, Kutna Hora burgeoned into fame and affluence a century later, thanks to its silver mining ventures. Kutna Hora’s medieval prosperity is reflected in the grandeur of its constructed churches, with the Cathedral of St Barbara standing out as the most renowned, dedicated to the patron saint of miners.

On the outskirts of Kutna Hora lies the haunting Sedlec Ossuary, recognized for its macabre collection of human bones. Nestled within the cemetery of the Church of All Saints, this Roman Catholic chapel became adorned with over 40,000 bones during the early 16th century, derived from exhumed mass graves. The practice of incorporating skulls and bones, whether authentic or not, into decorative elements was prevalent in late medieval Europe. This morbid symbolism served as a poignant reminder of the inexorable nature of mortality.
